Vêtements d'extérieur
Lavage en machine au cycle délicat avec de l'eau froide et du détergent (biodégradable de préférence). Sécher à plat. L'utilisation d'un défroisseur sur votre vêtement d'extérieur éliminera les plis.
Astuce 1 : placez votre vêtement d'extérieur dans la sécheuse à basse température pendant 5 minutes maximum pour éliminer l'humidité et faire gonfler l'isolation multicouche.
Astuce 2 : pour vaporiser naturellement votre pièce, accrochez votre vêtements dans la salle de bain en prenant votre douche du matin.
Sacs
Essuyez avec un chiffon ou une lingette légèrement humide. Pour les taches tenaces, nous vous recommandons de nettoyer les taches avec un nettoyant doux (biodégradable de préférence) et de l'eau tiède. Commencez toujours par tester les nettoyants dans un endroit peu visible, comme un coin à l'arrière du sac.
Conseil : utilisez des chiffons d'essuyage recyclés découpés dans de vieux draps et serviettes.
Tricots
Lavage en machine au cycle délicat avec de l'eau froide et du détergent (biodégradable de préférence). Sécher à plat.
Conseil : laver avec des couleurs similaires et repasser à l'envers prolongera la durée de vie de votre tricot.
A Note on Microplastics
The ECONYL® material we use in our coats and bags is an incredible, sustainable material. However, being made from recycled fishing nets means that it is a synthetic material. As a result, it does have the potential to be a source of “microfibres” or “microplastics”.
How we reduce the risk of microfibre shedding in our products
In 2020, an Italian study found that garments featuring a tightly woven structure and tightly twisted yarns made of continuous filaments release fewer microfibers into the air and during washing, compared to those with a looser structure.
BEDI uses a very specific and unique ECONYL® material, which is a very different composition than fabrics the same company uses to make swimsuits for example.
This fabric is made from continuous filaments, and is extremely tightly woven, as shown in the photo below. This very compact weave is what makes our ECONYL® material so water resistant! These features reduce the likelihood of microfibre releases.
One of the main areas of concern around microfibre release is washing. The good news is that our products made with ECONYL® need very little washing due to the waterproof nature of the material.
How to minimize microfibre shedding when caring for your BEDI coat
Here are some top tips for reducing the risk of microfibre shedding when caring for your BEDI coat.
- If you spill a liquid on the exterior of your coat, wipe it off with a dry cloth, then rinse the area with water as soon as possible.
-Spot clean more stubborn/ sticky spots as needed with a damp cloth and a bit of biodegradable soap
- If you sweat a bit while wearing your coat, turn it inside out and hang outdoors for a few hours to freshen it up.
For reference, we find most people wash their BEDI coat once per year.
When it does come time to wash your coat, it can be machine washed (no expensive dry cleaning required!)
- When washing your coat, use a liquid detergent (preferably biodegradable) to reduce friction and minimize microfibre shedding
- Use a gentle washing cycle and cold water
- It is often recommended to do full washes rather than half washes to reduce friction. However, we recommend washing your BEDI coat on its own, as the coats are already on the large size.
- Hang to dry, then tumble dry low for five minutes once your coat is mostly dry, to fluff up the insulation
How to minimize microfibre shedding when caring for your BEDI bag
Please note, our ECONYL® bags cannot be machine washed. Since they cannot be machine washed, the likelihood of microplastic shedding is greatly reduced.
To clean your bag, we recommend wiping it down with a damp cloth. For stubborn stains, we suggest spot cleaning with a gentle cleaner (biodegradable preferred) and warm water. Always test cleaners first in an inconspicuous location such as a corner at the back of the bag.
