The BEDI Business Model

We hold ourselves to a high standard. Here's what you can expect from BEDI

Where are BEDI Products Made?

Everything is handmade in Canada, with most of the collection made in small batches in Montréal.

Are your workers paid a fair wage?

Yes. Every person in the BEDI supply chain is paid above minimum wage.

Are your products vegan and cruelty free?

All of our products are vegan, with the exception of a few bags which are made with upcycled leather. After careful consideration, we made the decision to use upcycled leather in our collection to prevent this material from going to waste. We also offer bags made with Desserto vegan leather, and all vegan products are clearly labeled. Our coats are filled with Isosoft, a vegan insulation.

What is the Second Life Program?
Is everything upcycled?

One day everything new, will come from something old. This mantra is critical in our conception, and one we strive to reach everyday. If certain materials do not perform to the highest standard we will in those rare cases use virgin material, to strike the optimal balance of sustainability and performance. When and if there is a chance to replace that material with an upcycled material that performs to our stringent standards, we will be first to implement it.

Are all materials sourced locally?

We source materials with sustainability as a key variable. Not everything is always available locally, and therefore we strive to reach an optimal balance. An example of this is our exclusive nylon partnership with ECONYL®,  which comes from Italy, but is entirely regenerated from ocean waste and plastic originally destined for landfills.

BEDI Products

Questions about our products and which is right for you? We've got you covered!

Are all your coats rated for -30° c?

Yes! We are based in Montreal, and we believe warmth is of utmost importance. Our coats are made in Canada, and made for winter in Canada. No matter the style you choose, your coat will keep you warm and toasty. All our coats are insulated with Isosoft, a high-quality, vegan insulation that is warm, but lightweight. (If you’d like to read more about this cozy material, check out this blog post, all about Isosoft!)

Are your coats unisex?

We have separated our coats into men’s styles and women’s styles to give the best sense of fit, however, there are no hard and fast rules! We’ve outlined the main differences below, and if you feel drawn to a particular coat, but are unsure of the fit, don’t hesitate to ask! Email us anytime at contact@bedistudios.com and we’ll be happy to help.

Here are the main differences between BEDI’s Men’s and Women’s styles:
- The women’s styles are a more tapered torso fit. They tend to fit tighter in the waist, and subtlety flare out at the hips.
- The men’s styles are a straighter, boxier fit in the torso. They are not tapered at the waist, and they also don’t flare at the hips.
- The women’s styles have shorter arm lengths, and are designed for slimmer shoulders.
- The men’s styles have slightly longer arm lengths, and are designed to fit a broader shoulder.

How do I wash my coat?

One of the many great things about BEDI coats is that they don’t have to be dry cleaned, so you can say goodbye to costly dry cleaning bills anytime you spill a bit of coffee!

To clean your coat, pop it in the washing machine on a gentle cycle with cold water and a gentle detergent (preferably a biodegradable detergent). Lay flat to dryYou can place your outerwear piece in the dryer on a low temperature for up to 5 minutes to remove humidity and to fluff up the insulation.

Using a steamer on your outerwear piece will remove any wrinkles, or you can hang in the bathroom while taking a shower and let the humidity do its thing!

How do I decide on a size?

Our coats fit fairly true to size, but if you’re at all uncertain, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at contact@bedistudios.com with your measurements, and we’ll be happy to advise you on what size would be best for you!

We also have a size guide on each of our coat product pages, just to the right of the size selection. If you’re deciding between two sizes, we typically recommend going with the larger size, so you can wear your coat over bulky sweaters without feeling constrained.

How do I decide which BEDI coat style is best for me?

We wrote a blog post just for you! This post covers some FAQs about coats, and then describes the differences between each so you can decide what style would be best for you. Find the blog post on choosing your ideal BEDI coat style here.

Are all your products vegan?

Some of our products are vegan, but not all!

All of our outerwear is vegan. We use a synthetic insulation called ISOSOFT for our winter coats and vests.

We use upcycled leather for about 25% of the bags in our bags collection. The other bags in our collection are made of either Econyl nylon, Desserto vegan leather, or weather-resistant twill. All bags are clearly labeled if they are vegan, or if they use real leather. You can also filter by vegan products using the "Filter and Sort" menu in the top left-hand corner of the bag collection page.

As a company that makes vegan coats, and started with a collection of vegan bags, a great deal of research and thought went into our decision to use upcycled genuine leather for some of our bags.

The most sustainable material is almost always the one that already exists. While we are proud to offer some bags made with beautiful vegan cactus leather, there is also so much good quality leather that already exists in the world. Despite the beautiful quality, it’s a material that would unfortunately typically be discarded, along with the piece it was a part of.

We use no “new” leather, and we never will. Our upcycled leather collection truly embodies our values of quality and durability and our slogan: “One day, everything new will come from something old”.
